Background and Education

Originally from Uganda, where she attended Mbale Secondary School, Hassu later immigrated to Canada. She continued her education at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario, before settling down in Milton, Ontario, which serves as the current base of operations for her broadcasting network.

In June 2002, Hassu launched Sheetal Sangeet Broadcasting to serve the global South Asian diaspora, particularly the Gujarati-speaking community.

  • The Vision: The station was created to preserve and promote Gujarati culture, language, and arts through music and community programming.

  • The Network: It operates as a 24/7 online web radio station, bridging the gap between traditional cultural roots and modern digital media.

  • Community Focus: Over more than two decades, Hassu has used her platform to spotlight independent artists, celebrate cultural festivals, and keep Gujarati heritage alive for secondary generations living abroad.
